2009-2011 DRAWINGS TROUBLED MAGIC
Furthering my practice of narrative drawings, "Troubled Magic" focuses on subjects of fanatical world politics and the spiritual side of religion through a cast of make believe characters and fantastical scenery.
Each drawing is a self contained moment or monument to an alternative history allowing the audience to pull from their own past experience to come to a conclusion of the drawings narrative.
Optically the pieces are tightly drawn and brightly colored help to lure and guide the viewer through the narrative. Scenes which would normally appear threatening, dangerous, or grotesque inspire empathy as well as hope, and ultimately are revealed to be more complex than was first assumed.
